Burt’s Bee Claims Black Fragmented Family Photo Was Altered

On Monday Burt’s Bees apologized for an image from their Christmas campaign that showed three whole white families each consisting of a mother, father and children besides a Black family that depicted a single mother with children. Their original apology read “We recognize the importance of portraying families in a way that doesn’t promote harmful stereotypes. Our choice to use this photo when part of the family was not available for a rescheduled photoshoot was wrong, and we have removed the image from our website.” The skin care company also went on to contradict the apology by saying the circulated advertisement was photoshop alleging that the images were not originally grouped together or “compiled” but was “pasted together by a twitter user”. Do you think their sales will be stung?
