Inauguration Day is fast approaching and so is the threat of “armed protest” according to the FBI. “On 8 January, the FBI received information on an identified group calling for others to join them in “storming” state, local and federal government courthouses and administrative buildings in the event POTUS is removed as President prior to Inauguration Day. This identified group is also planning to storm government offices including in the District of Columbia and in every state, regardless of whether the states certified electoral votes for Biden or Trump, on 20 January. They went on to say “armed protest are being planned at all 50 state capitols from 16 January through at least 20 January and at all the US Capitols from 17 January through 20 January.“

On Monday President Trump invoked a state of emergency for Washington DC until January 24 which allows the Department of Homeland security to act in prevention of a “catastrophe.” Over 10,000 National Guards members have been deployed to the capitol with 5,000 additional on standby in an effort to peacefully transfer Presidential power. Donald Trump has said he will not attend the Biden-Harris Inauguration which effectively obstructs a 150 year tradition. Biden has welcomed that notion saying it’s a “good thing” following the attempted Capitol coup that took place by his base that left 5 people dead on Capitol Hill. Notably former President Barack Obama, George Bush and Bill Clinton are scheduled to be in attendance alongside sitting Vice President Mike Pence.
